In this talk I will give an introduction to Corning Incorporated and the role of technology in developing new products and processes. I will give an introduction to the different types of modeling that is performed at Corning. I will then focus on two specific types that I am involved in: i) CFD based models and ii) first principles based models. I will share details of how we develop these models and where appropriate validate them and eventually leverage them to make process/product specific recommendations. I will touch upon the role of HPC in our modeling strategy. I will also talk briefly about my experiences around making modeling effective within the industry.
Aravind has been with Corning Incorporated from 2005 where he started as a scientist, became a project leader in 2008 in charge of developing and setting the modeling strategy for the Corning Life Sciences business. In 2012 Aravind transitioned to his current role of Technology Manager for process modeling. Aravind’s current focus is Process and Product modeling for Life Sciences, Developing fundamental understanding of the glass/organic interface and developing Injection Mold modeling competency for Corning Incorporated. Aravind is a chemical engineer with a PhD from Washington University in St.Louis and jointly with National Chemical Laboratory, India.
